Battle for Murang’a
Speaker’s position is at its best with more than 10 candidates showing interest
with leaders looped in.

In the race, the
incumbent Leonard Nduati Kariuki has shown interest to defend the position
ready to face aspirants Stephen Macharia, Johnson Mukuha, and Lawrence Munga have had
meetings with the MCAs elect in secret positions
searching for backing.

Nduati has been at
the helm of the Murang’a County Assembly since 2013 and is still interested to go for the third term.

 Others are lawyer Peter Kimani, Stephen Makome,  and Weston Githabu.

 All have been visiting the MCAs at the constituency level outlining their
manifestos with an interest in improving the members’
welfare.
 

The youthful Munga who hails from Maragua says he will use his background to ensure the assembly performs its role.

“ The laws to be formulated should be tailored to spur growth and support the youth who are the majority,” said Munga.

Macharia who hails
from Mathioya says he will champion the relationship between the assembly and  Governor Irungu Kang’ata and the entire executive.

 Macharia adds that he will ensure the MCAs
get timely salaries in an effort to support their role in playing oversight.

“Am ready to ensure
Murang’a moves to another level through enacting the right laws and policies,”
said Macharia.

Mukuha said he is
interested to take the assembly to greater heights by improving service
delivery to ensure pledges made are actualized.

He said the assembly will be an independent institution that will restore the dignity of the MCAs while providing solutions to the electorate in line with the bottom up  approach of empowering the people.

“Am interested to
ensure the revenue collection will increase from Sh400 million to Sh 1.2
billion,” said Mukuha from Kangema.
