Democratic Party (DP) has launched door to
door campaign eying to capture the ward seat.
Party
flag bearer Nelson Kenda has been involved in the door to door campaign in the
vast Gaturi ward in Kiharu constituency, Murang’a County.
Kenda
who has been joined by DP deputy party leader Irungu Nyakera has transversed the ward urging the voters to back him, as he
was a local aware of their needs.
Nyakera is a former Principal Secretary and eying for Murang’a Governorship
position after exit of Governor Mwangi wa Iria.
“
It will be my work to ensure Gaturi ward
shine in matters related to health, access roads, water among other functions
to improve living standards of the people,” said Kenda.
The slot has attracted
15 candidates who include Jubilee Party nominee Rosemary Wakuthie, Esther Kamau
People Empowerment
Party (PEP) affiliated to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
Mwihaki moved to PEP
after she lost Jubilee Party ticket. Electrical Engineer Muchoki Mbuthia is
sponsored by Maendeleo Chap Chap affiliated to Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
Others in the ward race are Youth leader Chris Kimuhu is vying on National
Ordinary People’s Empowerment Party (Nopeu), associated with Agriculture
Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and East African Legislative Assembly Member Mr
Mpuri Amburi.
Narc Kenya allied for
Martha Karua is fielding Zablon Mwangi, while The Young Democratic Party has
settled on former Gaturi councilor Jacob Murira.
Speaking
to The Mountain Journal, Muchoki said he was confident to win the seat left
behind by the late Cyrus Kiiru Mwangi aka Mbembe, due to the massive following
by the youth.
“All
along have been involved in community projects in the ward and more importantly
in environmental conservation along Mathioya river,” said Muchoki.
He
is working on environmental programme to protect Kangure Forest from illegal
loggers.
