Directors cry, as they shared a meeting with KTDA managers

By The Mountain Journal

Directors claim to have been kept in the cold in the
management of tea factories.

The directors from east of the rift raised their concerns
during the consultative meetings convened by the Tea stabilization task force that
was established by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, two months ago.

Led by Jerald Ngumba and Mbote Mwangi said the new
managers have been kept in the cold, and unaware of the operations inside the tea processing
factories.

They have expressed disappointment after they have
been blocked from accessing crucial information pertaining to the sector, while
KTDA has continued working with the old directors.

“ It is a shame that the directors who are recognized by
the registrar of companies  are not aware
of the daily happenings on the amount of tea in the store. Also  there is no communication of the produce on
transit and those getting in the auction market,” said Mbote.

 Nyakera on his
part said the challenges in the sector
will be resolved in the next two months.

“ Once the KTDA
board is reconstituted  all the
cases in our courts will be withdrawn  as
all the stakeholders are ready to  work
in cooperation for the interest of the growers,” said Nyakera who chairs the
Tea Sector Lobby.

On tea matters, he said, the task force was
working to help reduce the expenses incurred in the tea production  focusing at increasing returns to the
farmers.

“ We are looking
at how we shall expand the tea market with better prices to the growers who for
long have been exploited,” said Nyakera who is among the leaders who
spearheaded reforms in the  sector.
