MEDICAL: Changes at KMPDU

There
is a change of guard at the Kenya Medical Practioners, Pharmacists and Dentists
Union (KMPDU) with Dr Davji Ouma Otella elected the new Secretary-General after
he defeated the former Dr Hamisi Chibanzi Mwachonda who had been in the acting
capacity.

Chibanzi
a year ago took over the SG mantle from Dr Ouma Oluga after he moved to Nairobi
Metropolitan Service (NMS).

Otella
former branch official in South Rift polled 1,553 votes to defeat Hamisi who had
garnered 653 votes.

In
the Secretary-General contest, Alexander Thuranira polled 1,415 votes and came
second to Otella, and Kevin Osuri got 547 votes.

In
the post of the chairman, Abidan Mwachi Muchuma clinched 1,541 votes, defeated
his three rivals Benjamin Gikenyi (1,352), Ochanji Ojwang( 849), and Harvey
Mulei(357).

Abidan
replaced  the former Chairman Samuel
Oroko who did not defend his slot in the election conducted virtually following
the government ban of meetings to stop the spread of Covid 19

Mercy
Nabwire took over from Daisy Korir union national treasurer position after she clinched
the national treasurer’s slot after he garnered 2,362 votes and defeated Lolla
Adelene( 1,023), Essam Ahmed (647) and Carey Francis Otulo( 105). Nabwire will
be deputized by Anbar Aslam who got 1,968 votes.
