There
were celebrations in Gatanga following the government decision to split the
vast sub-county into two.
Interior
and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i said the
government acted following the leaders’ pleas.
The CS spoke at Kirwara Police Station when he
commissioned a building constructed using resources from the NG CDF under MP Eng
Joseph Ngugi.

In
Murang’a are squabbles between Gatanga and Kiharu constituencies which will be split to create an additional constituency.
“ To
ensure there is effective service delivery there will be two deputy county
commissioners in Gatanga and arrangements have been finalized,” said the CS who
visited Gatanga and Kigumo sub-counties.

In
Kigumo, sub-county, Matiang’i accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries James
Macharia( Transport) and Joe Mucheru(ICT) participated in the groundbreaking ceremony
of the Sh320 million modern market at Kangari market.
They
lauded efforts made by Kigumo MP Wangari Mwaniki to lobby for major development
projects in the constituency.
Matiang’I
said the contractor is under firm instructions to take the shortest time possible
to complete the project.

“
This is one of the ambitious government projects that will accommodate 400
traders in the six-storey building,” said
Matiang’i.
Macharia on his part said in Central Kenya there are three fast-growing
market centres, with two in Murang’a.
“
As the government, we are constructing two modern markets at Kenol and Kangari.
They have been proposed to be elevated to the Municipal status where Kenya
Urban Roads Authority (KURA) will work on the road networks,” said Macharia.

Kangari market that will enable the traders to market their products locally
and abroad.
