There will be a key meeting to be convened by Parliamentary health
committee on Thursday to look into ways to resolve the crisis in the health sector.
Committee Chairperson Sabina Chege said regretted the suffering
Kenyans were undergoing after the health workers went on strike.
She spoke at Ngutu primary school in Murang’a, when she joined
Safaricom Foundation during the distribution of dignity kits to learners in primary
schools in Mathioya constituency.
“It is regrettable that after the services have been affected by
the strike, thousands of Kenyans are stranded in health facilities,” she said.
“We shall be having a stakeholder meeting to deliberate the way
forward in solving the crisis” she said.
She warned politicians against playing politics in matters related
to health services, saying Kenyans are desperate.
“There are directives that were given to the Ministry of Health among
them release of Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) for distribution to health
facilities,” she said when fielding questions from the press.
She observed that there had been talks between the stakeholders
that could have averted the strike.
The concerns by the committee, she said include insurance cover to all the health workers, release
of Personal Protection Equipment from Kemsa stores among others.
