Covid 19: Murang’a moves to fumigate its markets

 

Mission to stop the
spread of Covid 19 in Murang’a has been launched with fumigation of market
centres.

Murang’a County
Government has embarked in fumigating of market centres,  learning institutions in efforts to contain
the spread of the disease following increased cases of patients testing
positive.


Health and Sanitation
Executive Committee Member Joseph Mbai said the 144 market centres in the eight
sub-counties will be fumigated in three months.

“This is an exercise
forcced following the increased Covid 19 positive cases  in the county after the public flouted the
imposed Covid 19 protocols,” said Mbai.  


Municipal Public
Health Officer Alex Karanja  coordinated the
fumigation exercise.

 On Monday, County Government headquarters was
ordered closed by the County Secretary Patrick Mukuria after some employees
among them 30 health workers tested positive.


“There are accumulative of 347 people have
contracted the disease, with 10 deaths reported,” said Mbai adding that another
48 people  have been placed under home
based care.
