MARAGUA: Town to reclaim its former glory

After years of being isolated due to poor road infrastructure Maragua
town is getting back to its fame following rehabilitation of the networks.

In the past 10 years, the agricultural town remained deserted as people
feared from getting into the main shopping centre over the destruction of their
vehicles due to huge potholes.

 The project funded by Kenya
Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) supervised by Eng Joseph Wanjohi has returned
Maragua town back to fame.

Poor status of the road networks in the town, investors had
established premises near Maragua police station along the Murang’a- Kenol
road.

 Peter Mwania a matatu
driver say public service operators appreciate the government efforts to
reclaim the status of the town.

Maragua MP Mary Wamaua said the town had been neglected with poor
road infrastructure among other challenges experienced by traders.

In the past, she said, the
town was dotted with potholes, which have forced the majority of
Public Service Vehicles (PSV) stop plying through it.

“The contractor is now working on the drainage system to protect
the road from destruction by stagnant water” said the MP.

Ichagaki MCA Charles Mwangi has been at loggerheads with Wamaua
alleging to have pushed for allocation of funds to facilitate
rehabilitation of town roads.

The MCA says it sounds funny that the MP claiming to have lobbied presidential decree.

“Let it be noted that I played a crucial role in the allocation
of resources for the project, when the MP was among those tarnishing the government of the day,” said Mr Mwangi.

Maragua town is set to grow further as the Nanyuki-Nairobi railway line passes through. The railway line will create employment opportunities.
