Safaricom to give health facilities PPEs worth Sh36 million

Safaricom Foundation
has listed 24 counties to receive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for
health workers.

Foundation’s official Peter Njioka  said Murang’a is one of the counties lined up
to benefit with the Sh36 million donation,   for the safety of the health workers.

Speaking at Murang’a Level Five Hospital,
Njioka said Murang’a is listed among the counties that took early steps to
ensure the safety of their residents.

“We are here to ensure
safety of the health workers is guaranteed as there are first line soldiers in
the fight against the pandemic,” said Njioka.

Each of the 24 counties will receive donation
of Sh1.5 million.

During the function,
Murang’a MP Sabina Chege lauded Murang’a county government over the efforts
made to ensure the residents were protected against the disease.

Murang’a, she said has been ranked the best
in Covid 19 Preparedness  with 94
percent.

“A survey  conducted in the counties found that Murang’a
under Governor Mwangi wa Iria  was far
ahead,” said Chege who chairs parliamentary committee on health.

She further asked
Kenya Bureau of Standard (Kebs) to investigate claims of substandard PPEs,
delivered to health facilities.

“Kebs should inspect
the status of the PPEs to ensure our health workers are safe. It should not
limit its mandate on sanitisers, the health sector is wide,” said the MP.

On alleged misappropriation of funds allocated
to fight Covid 19, she said Kemsa board led by Kembi Gitura has been  invited for interrogation on Thursday.

She said the investigation will be extended to
Kenyatta National Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kenyatta University
