Preparation of the ceremony has kicked off at
the Gikuyu shrine, despite the emerging of factions

Swords are drawn on the planned coronation of
Gikuyu community spoke-person at the sacred Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine in  Gakuyu village, Murang’a.

Kiama Kiama elders support the coronation of
Muturi, while the Kikuyu council of elders led by Wachira Kiago opposes.

Also protesting against the event is the
Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria  who
says the ground is sacred and  he will
not allow it  to be polluted.

Murang’a County Assembly Culture Committee  Chairman Stephen Chege Habire said they are not aware of the event.

” The event should be shifted to General Ihura stadium  where President Uhuru Kenyatta was  blessed as the Gema spokesman in 2012. Why the rush  to coronise Muturi when Kenyatta remains the regional spokesperson,” said Habire also the Murang’a youth representative.

Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga
is the community Vatican as the county government will not allow it being
polluted by politicians out to seek glorifications.

“The shrine is
managed by the county government and those planning have not sought permission
to use it as they know they are working against the Gikuyu traditions,” said
the governor.

Kikuyu Council of Elders Wachira Kiago says
the event was political and the organisers should keep off the shrine.

“The last time it
was used to crown the late Njenga Karume the elders were forced to return  to the shrine and cleanising ceremony as the
traditions demand,” said Kiago.

But Kiama Kia Official  Kung’u Muigai on his part said the ceremony
will take place, as it has the blessing of the local leaders.

At  Gakuyu village, the locals are reading from
the different scripts over the faction following the events that followed after
the coronation of the late Karume.
