Government project to connect Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions in line

Ground is set for the ambitious Mau Mau road  designed
to increase business activities in Central Kenya.

The Sh30 billion project has been awarded to
five contractors  and designed to be completed in two years.

In the 500 kilometers stretch to connect counties of
Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua funded by Kenya National Highways
Authority (KeNHA)  will pass through more than 200 market centres.

Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James
Macharia, KeNHA Chairman Eng Wangai Ndirangu and Director General Peter
Mundinia said the project is earmarked to end in two years, to ease transport
in the counties and beyond.

“The Sh30 billion project is on course with five
contractors on site, as the government promised to deliver Mau Mau road  to ease connection in transportation of people and goods,” said   the CS.

Macharia spoke during a tour of inspection of status of the road in Murang’a said the project is an appreciation to the Mau Mau war
veterans  who passed through the route when fighting the colonial soldiers
along the Aberdare Forest.

The project starts at Gataka area in Kiambu and extends to
Njeng’u area in Mweiga along the Nyeri-Nyahururu road.

Two other roads  will pass through Gatanga and Kigumo
constituencies   through  the Aberdare Forest to connect at
Njabini in Nyandarua county, to Naivasha Dry Port in Nakuru county.
