Fifty years after Kenya attained independence a crucial road serving several public offices in Murang’a has been tarmacked.
The road taking the locals to Kenya Power, Lands Registry, Law court and Mt Kenya Central ACK Diocese headquarters has been ignored for decades.
Through the support of the World Bank of Sh50million, to the Murang’a Municipal Board, the 1.5 kilometers will be improved to the bitumen standard.
To witness the tarmacking of the road were the board members and Murang’a County Government Urban Planning and Development Executive Sarah Masaki.
Masaki said there is a five year development plan that will support the coming up of major infrastructure for the benefit of the town.
“ The board is working around the clock towards improvement of Murang’a and bringing services closer to the people in the spirit of devolution,” said the executive.
A member of the board James Waweru said another Sh20 million will be used to create walkways in the town.
“ We call upon the business community to support the board through a partnership programme. We are seeking the collaboration of establishment of recreational parks among other ventures,” said Waweru.
It was a joy to the residents and especially business persons who detailed their frustration how the improvement of the road had been delayed.
John Mwangi recounts how the muddy stretch had been a challenge to the locals, forcing the majority to park their vehicles kilometres away.
“ This is the first noble project that has been done under Murang’a county government for the interest of the traders,” said Mwangi.
