The embattled Senate Majority Whip
Irungu Kang’ata has hinted of a move to ouster him from the position following
a letter he authored to President Uhuru Kenyatta over the response of Building
Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The Murang’a senator letter he wrote was a
sincere message to expose the stand of the constitutional reform, to save the
government from experiencing shame at the national referendum.
“My honest position is that after a survey I found that only 2
people out of 10 supported the BBI, six people rejected it,” said the senator.
In a vernacular TV show, Kang’ata
detailed how the move to oust
him has kicked off with present
experience on removal from the position
of BBI leader in the Central region.
On Saturday last week, the indication of the removal was
led by replacement with Kirinyaga Senator Irungu Kang’ata.
His Murang’a slot was taken over by Kigumo MP Wangari
Mwaniki who is a key allay to President Kenyatta and being a lawyer.
The team co-chaired by Kibiru and National Assembly Deputy
Chief Whip Maoka Maore was appointed during a high powered meeting held at
Thika Greens Resort in Gatanga, Murang’a.
Others are Embu Woman Representative Jane
Wanjuki as Secretary, Limuru MP Peter Mwathi the Organising Secretary and
Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo) as his assistant.
Appointment
of Mwaniki in the powerful group will stop
the emerging opposition of the report in parts of Murang’a which has
been accelerated in parts of the county.
Mwaniki, a lawyer by profession, has been the
key supporter of the BBI backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“ I authored the letter through Jubilee Party leadership ranks that
included Secretary General Raphael Tuju
and Samuel Poghisio,” said Mwaniki.
The President speaking in Mululu area on Saturday, said he was in charge of the
country’s leadership and would not allow it to be lectured from any quarter.
After the outcry caused by the
letter, Kangata went into hiding, and the letter dated January 4th was
forged by individuals with intent to disown the sentiments.
“
The sentiments in the letter were not a shock to the leadership in Central as
all have been aware of the challenges experienced,” said Kang’ata.
He added that his sentiment have been supported by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Laikipia MP Catherine Warurugu among others.
