Laikipia

In the past two months several
counties have visited Laikipia to learn about management of leasing equipment
programme.

 A programme that was launched
by Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has attracted other counties that are sending
their delegations to learning on management and the operation of the leasing
programme.

and learnt of the operations of the cost effective programme.

 Governor Muriithi said in the
programme hundreds of kilometres of road have been worked on leading to the
effective transportation of farm produce to the market.

“ I came  to actual the
concept  based on effective service delivery and  reduced cost of
doing the best in murraming and grading of roads  in Laikipia,” said
the Governor.

By the end of last year 395.65 kilometers of road had been graded, with another 132.6
kilometers graveled, in a  project coordinated by Eng Duncan Muturi.

   We learnt that in
Umande ward which was among the areas with poor roads, under the programme 17
kilometres of roads have been improved as compared to five kilometres that had
been attended to between 2013 and 2017.

Some of the security roads have been
worked in Laikipia West region and have reduced rate of insecurity especially
areas neighbouring Kuki Gallman Conservancy

  Laikipia County Secretary
Karanja Njora said the programme has opened the interior parts, leading to
increased business activities.

The county Secretary said  more
counties are willing to send their delegations to learn for benchmarking
purposes.

“ There is a lot of work done and
more to be done in the coming years to ensure we give our people the best,”
said Njora, adding that others are visiting on their own  when
touring  for other purposes.

 Njora said  the leasing
programme is much cheaper than contracts.

“ The project done at sh1,5 million
through a contract is done at between Sh300,000 and Sh600,000,” said Njora. In
the programme,  the contractor  caters for the servicing of the
equipment while the county caters for fuel.
