Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa
Iria has asked leaders who had been
opposed to the constitutional amendment bill
to reconsider their stand.
Murang’a County assembly was the second after
Laikipia to pass the bill in Mt Kenya region.
Without mentioning names, the governor spoke
in reference to MPs Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Alice Wahome ( Kandara) and senator
Irungu Kang’ata that they should
reconsider their stand and support the bill.
“Since our MCAs have supported the bill and
the requirement of the law, we are ready to accept them back and pursue the journey
together,” said the governor when he addressed the press outside the county
assembly.
The 53 MCAs supported the bill, following the directive they got from the
residents during the public participation forums at the sub county levels.
The voting session was conducted by speaker
Nduati Kariuki where MCAs Jecinta Ng’ang’a, Amos Murigi and Beth Waithera
supported the bill on the ground it called for additional resources to the counties.
Ng’ang’a said it was a shame that some of the
former MCAs left in paupers and seeking employment at Murang’a County
Government and private sectors.
“ Now the MCAs will have Sh20
million per year to implement development programmes, as it will be a
relief as we have been using our
resources,” said Ng’ang’a.
