Leaders in a political strategy meeting after the BBI shock

The Mountain Journal

Hours after the Court of Appeal ruled against Constitutional amendments proposed in the BBI, a section of Mt Kenya leaders who had endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga for Presidency made an about turn.

They said the mountain was open for talk with right minded leaders  seeking for solutions on myriad challenges facing the region.

The squad led by Kirinyaga Governor Mumbi Waiguru, Ndiritu Muriithi( Laikipia), James Nyoro( Kiambu) and MPs Jeremiah Kioni( Ndaragwa) and Sabina Chege( Murang’a)  in a meeting in Nanyuki turned around  calling  for negotiation  with Presidential candidates who   have Mountain region  social and economic interests.

Waiguru said the  regional leaders will negotiate with those who demonstrate care on the crucial aspects including social and economic interests ahead of  next year’s general elections.

Missing in the forum  are  Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria who has declared interest to run for Presidency through Usawa Kwa Wote Party, his Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga and Francis Kimemia of Nyandarua.

“ There is great need to continue putting people together to advance Unity and welfare of the residents,” said the Kirinyaga Governor.

Waiguru, Nyoro and Ndiritu were among scores of leaders from the Mountain who were on Tuesday in Nakuru where they accompanied  the ODM leader during inspection of development programmes.

The Nanyuki meeting  was a follow up meeting of Central Kenya leaders to shape the political direction the mountain will take after several candidates have shown interest  with the nine million plus votes.

Also present was Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya also the parliament majority leader

But Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro  celebrated the  Court of Appeal ruling saying  majority of the Kenyans were not for  the constitutional amendments  he termed illegal.

“ The Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the High Court  and declared the process illegal,” said Nyoro.

He explained that the process which was initiated by the ODM leader  was a personal decision  that has cost the country leaving patches of incomplete programmes.

“ Those who misappropriated billions of shillings through the support of the illegal process  should be ready to return  the resources to facilitate completion of the development projects among them roads,” said Kiharu MP.

Nyoro is among the hardliners supporting Deputy President William Ruto.
