KTDA Foundation comes to the rescue of growers

 

Kenya Tea Development Agency
Foundation has set aside Sh10 million to facilitate 12 free medical camps in
the tea growing areas this year.

In the annual programme
done in the 12 zones, thousands of tea growers and members of the factories
managed by  the agency benefit  with high-quality treatment and health
advice from experts.

In Zone three, the farmers  affiliated to Gatunguru tea factory in
Kangema, Murang’a will benefit from a three-day free medical camp.

 Majority of the farmers say they are suffering
from breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes among others ailments.

 The camp is a joint venture between the
factory and the Ministry of health, targeting more than 3,000 growers from the
county.

Speaking at Kihoya dispensary,
KTDA Foundation official Ms Emmy Kulola said the programme has transformed many
lives in the villages,  thus need to support it.

“ The partnership with the Ministry of health is appreciated as the farmers get the value,” said Kulola . 

She added that every year the programme runs across the country for the interest of tea growers, and their families.

Gatunguru Tea Factory
Chairman Samuel Mugi said the programme has assisted the growers to access
health education.

“The designed to factories
under KTDA management recognise the importanise of the growers thus the need to
join hands with others to facilitate a
three days medical camp near them,” said Mr Mugi. ,

A clinical officer at
the dispensary Dennis Kamau said   the medical camps  are of importance as the community get
quality treatment and followings.

 In the tea zones, he said the farmers are
victims  of non-communicable diseases,
thus need for specialised health care due to their age.

“We expect to attend not less than 1,500 people during the exercise,” he said.
