Kirinyaga Governor Mumbi Waiguru has shifted her political loyalty to United Democratic Alliance (UDA)  citing response  from her constituents.

The move by Waiguru has complicated chances of ODM leader Raila Odinga getting support in Kirinyaga where UDA has registered two candidates who will be competing for governorship.

Kinyaga MP Wangui Ngirici, a firm supporter of Deputy President William Ruto will be facing the newcomer in the governorship race next year.

Weeks ago, the governor gave indications to shift from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s camp citing she will act in response from Kirinyaga people on the way forward.

Speaking in Jericho, Thiba ward, she said that she will be joining UDA and ready to face her competitor Ngirici.

“Am heading to UDA after listening to my people as I promised and they have spoken,” said the governor.

The MP has welcomed the governor in the party saying they will work together and are ready to support the winner.

The shift comes shortly after former Gichugu MP Martha Karua was bestowed the responsibility of Mt Kenya region spokesperson in the struggle to unite the region politically.
