The coffee farmers in the estate and Cooperative made Sh 1.4 billion after the auction of 32,550 bags of coffee that attracted 18 local and international dealers at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE).Â
Last week, after the completion of the auction process, the buyers bought 30,824 bags of coffee at Sh 1.51 billion.
During the weekly auction, farmers offered 5,402 bags of grade AA, 8,927 bags of AB, and 2,538 bags of grade C that netted a total of Sh848.3 million. Â
In the past two weeks, the coffee prices have been low following the eruption of the Middle East crisis, which has disrupted the transport of agricultural produce through the sea.
NCE report stated that factories that achieved the highest prices were Mathira-based Karindundu Sh47,085, Gathugu 46,956, and Gachatha ini Sh 46,827 after the sale of their grade AA, all marketed by Alliance Berries Limited. Â
In the coffee broker’s performance, Alliance Berries offered 13,106 bags and delivered the highest volumes of quality grades of 336,132 kgs, followed by Kirinyaga Slopes 5,070 bags, New KPCU 3,701 bags, Kipkelion 2,151 bags, CEBBA 1,005 bags, among others.
NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u noted that local and international buyers participated, with a particular interest in quality coffee and certified coffee.
She called on the farmers to use the auction platform, as it has provided competitive prices.
“ We have made a clarion call to the farmers to nurture their coffee based on the recommendations of the agronomists in efforts to get the taste demanded by the buyers, thus better payment,” said Ms. Ndung’u..
In the dealers category, Ibero Kenya bought 9,964 bags, Kenyacof 4,518 bags, Sasini 3,575 bags, Louis Dreyfus 3,542 bags, among others.
The average price per bag of the commodity was at Sh 36,364.69
Coffee Value Chain expert Henry Kinyua said Kenya’s coffee continues to attract more buyers, encouraging farmers to increase the production of high-quality coffee.
“ In the coffee year 2025/2026, the buyers are interested in quality coffee, which pays better as it is exported to the international markets,” said Kinyua.
