Laikipia leaders have moved to seek for a lasting solution to tame the increased banditry attacks in parts of Laikipia North.

The MPs Mwangi Kiunjuri( Laikipia East) Sara Lekorere( Laikipia North) and Jane Kagiri( Laikipia) moved to the war zone areas to engage the communities looking for a lasting solution after the locals report thousands of their livestock had been stolen by armed bandits.

They moved in Laikipia North areas for meetings where  the locals raised fresh concerns over the resurgence of banditry attacks, adding that insecurity in one area poses a threat to the entire region.

The MPs accompanied by the local leaders toured and engaged residents in Mukogondo West, saying although Laikipia has continued to  enjoy relative peace in recent years, renewed attacks particularly in Laikipia North signaled the need for enhanced security interventions to protect residents and their property.

They said they will focus on finding lasting solutions to the recurring insecurity.

The engagement comes amid reports that thousands of livestock have been stolen in recent weeks, severely affecting livelihoods and weakening the local economy.

The leaders emphasized the importance of continued dialogue with communities in the affected areas to develop sustainable coexistence strategies and restore stability.

Kiunjuri also confirmed that the National Government has deployed security forces to the region and assured residents that troops are actively pursuing the perpetrators behind the attacks.
