The Nyandarua county government has invested in the introduction of coffee farming in Ndaragwa constituency.
The introduction is part of the ambitious programme by the government to increase production focusing on the non traditional areas.
Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Bandilisha said the introduction of the crop following farmers sensitisation meetings at Ndugino areas is after the climate and soils favour the crop.
He said It has been proven that sections of Nyandarua favour coffee growing and the existing bushes are already yielding.
“ We are going to distribute coffee seedlings to the farmers in the locality as part of creating resources for our people,” said the governor, adding that coffee will be introduced in the current financial year as part of our ongoing crop diversification program.
The county government official visited Solomon Njenga Kuria farm in the Matûmi village in Githioro Ward where coffee trees are doing better.
Other crops that will be introduced are pyrethrum, apples and avocados with the intention to strengthen resilient agriculture while growing the income of our farmers.
