The Kenya Association in Rwanda (AKR) were crowned champions after an impressive performance at the 7-a-side friendly football tournament held at San Siro Grounds, Kigali.
The Kenyans kicked off their campaign in style with a commanding 4–0 victory over Angola, showcasing confident attacking play and solid defense. In the second match, the United Nations team edged Angola 1–0, setting the stage for a decisive clash between Kenya and the UN side.
Kenya clinched the title with a determined 4–0 win over the United Nations. A late goal sealed the victory and sparked jubilant celebrations among the Kenyan community and supporters in Kigali.
The friendly tournament, organized by the Association of Kenyans Living in Rwanda, aimed to foster unity, sportsmanship, and friendship among regional and international communities.
“It was all about friendship and fair play — but it feels great to lift the trophy,” said one Kenyan player after the final whistle.
Event organizer Wycliffe Aganda, Chairman of AKR, emphasized that the friendly was more than just a sporting contest — it was a celebration of community spirit ahead of AKR’s annual service event.
“Sports bring people together, and that same spirit of teamwork inspires our service to the community,” Aganda said. “As we celebrate our win, we are also preparing to give back through our End-of-Year Umuganda.”
The AKR End-of-Year Thanksgiving Umuganda, themed “Service: The Heart of Our Community,” will be held on 29th November 2025 at Kanombe Sector — Rubirizi and Busanza Cells.
This year’s initiative will:
Support 500 community members with Mutuelle health insurance
Empower 20 women graduates from technical training to start small businesses
Provide vulnerable families with food and clothing
AKR is inviting members and well-wishers to contribute through financial donations, foodstuffs, clothing, or active participation on the day.
Organizers say every contribution strengthens community bonds and brings hope — a fitting follow-up to a weekend of sporting triumph and social impact for Kenyans living in Rwanda.
