Over 12,000 learners in Kiharu, Murang’a have been enrolled in an education intervention programme by the area MP Ndindi Nyoro.
The programme dubbed ‘Kiharu Masomo Bora’ will benefit from reduced school fees and enhanced student welfare following improvements.
Speaking in Kiharu at Maragi Primary School, the MP announced that fees in all 65 day Secondary schools within the constituency have been reduced to Ksh 500 per term, a move aimed at easing the financial burden on parents amid the rising cost of living.
“In addition to reducing fees, we have introduced a structured school feeding programme to support our learners,” Nyoro said. Under the initiative, lunch will now be served from Monday to Saturday in all participating schools, with chapati served on the last Friday of every month to improve student nutrition and morale.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that it is expected to boost student attendance, retention, and academic performance, particularly among learners from vulnerable households.
The Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme, Nyoro noted, places education at the centre of constituency development and reinforces a commitment to equitable access to quality education for all learners, regardless of background.
“ In the programme we have donors supplying schools with sugar worth Sh7.5million, wheat flour for weekly chapati,” said the MP
