Farmers Party leader Irungu Nyakera has continued fighting for the farmers to ensure universal access to high-quality and affordable medicines is a key focus of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Nyakera said the tax structure in the agricultural sector is a barrier to accumulating personal wealth needed for modern farming practices.
To address these issues, Nyakera, also the KEMSA Board Chairman, met with the KRA Commissioner General Humprey Mulongo Wattanga where they discussed tax implications on health products and agriculture.
Nyakera and Wattaga, agreed to propose specific measures for consideration and action for the interest of the farmers who are the majority in the country.
The Farmers Party, Nyakera said it recognizes the vital role of the agricultural sector in Kenya’s economy, contributing more than 33% of GDP.
Agriculture sector, apart from contributing to the GDP, employs a significant portion of the population.
Forty percent of the rural population is involved in agriculture thus feeding the nation.
“The party is dedicated to the support of the farmers and promoting sustainable livelihoods,” said Nyakera.
