Murang’a County Government has
launched Kang’ata Care Programme, with the engagement of 4,000 Community Health
Volunteers (CHVs).
Launching the programme at
Gakoigo Grounds, Maragua, and Governor Irungu Kang’ata said the Sh170 million
programme for the 21 000 households, the Governor said every year more
people will be recruited.

“Next year July with consultation
with Murang’a County Assembly another 10,000 households will be recruited to
benefit from the programme,” said Kang’ata.
The Governor was accompanied
by NHIF Chief Executive Officer Peter Kamunyu who stressed on the need for
Kenyans to be registered with the insurance scheme.

The recruitment of the
beneficiaries in the health programme, Kang’ata said, started with the elderly
persons with over 60 year the governor said included the old, those with
life threatening diseases, homes run by a single parent among others.
“This is a milestone achieved as the
beneficiary in the Kang’ata Care programme will get treatment at no
charge,” said Kang’ata.
The CHvs, he said will be engaged by
the County Government in various programmes including monitoring the ECDEs Uji
programme to ensure the success.

” The CHVs will be trained in a programme that will be facilitated by World Bank to ensure they are conversant with the responsibilities,” said the Governor.
In matters pertaining
collection of revenue, the Governor said the digitalization programme
piloted within Murang’a town will be rolled out in the entire county come
January.
“ My interest is to ensure the
revenue collected is prudently used for the interest of Murang’a
residents,’ said Kang’ata.
In the supplementary budget,
he said Sh8 million was allocated to each ward to allow MCAs
spearhead development programmes in the wards.
