Murang’a county government celebrated its employees over effective performance in the year, with the health department ranked the best.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata unveiling the Christmas Tree at Ihura stadium in Murang’a town has distributed christmas gifts to hundreds of the venerable persons in the wards.
The governor said as he distributes food stuff to the people it was also the best to award trophies to the outstanding public servants at the county government
He added that in the year his administration managed to collect own source revenue of Sh1 billion from the previous
“As a tradition during festive seasons we have to support the persons from humble backgrounds as well as those with special needs,” said Kang’ata.
In each of the 15 departments, one of the employees was honoured by the governor for the outstanding performance in the year.
In appreciation of the best performing departments, the health department led by CEC Dr Fredrick Mbugua and Chief Officers Eliud Maina and Wanjohi Karoga was awarded a trophy for Kang’ata Care /SHA programme that has been allocated Sh50 million.
The Uji programme for nursery schools was also celebrated for its effort in sustaining more than 42,000 learners in the ECDE centres in the wards.
Two weeks ago, the County Government’s Kangata Care health programme won a Gold medal in a continental competition in Kampala, Uganda.
Another programme that won the award is the Murang’a Youth Service (MYS) designed to help the youth acquire skills to assist in the creation of employment.
on education matters, the county government will in January pay school fees for top-performing learners in day secondary schools.
Kang’ata has announced that all top 10 students in every class in all-day secondary schools in the county will benefit from the programme.
Kang’ata said day school learners face challenges that make it harder for them to compete with their counterparts in boarding schools.
“Some students have to walk through several villages to access their schools early in the morning. Some, especially girls, face risks as they trek to school before dawn while their counterparts in boarding schools just wake up and rush to class,” he said.
He announced that the top performers will be receiving cheques that they will then be presenting to their schools’.
At the same time, County Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee Chairman Charles Machigo lauded the Kang’ata administration for installation of solar lights in the streets following disconnection of street lights by Kenya Power.
“ Installation of solar lights will save the county government from paying high bills estimated at millions of shillings monthly,” said Machigo.
