Gikuyu music festival thrills Murang’a residents

Veteran and upcoming musicians in Murang’a took to the stage to thrill their fans as part of Christmas and New Year festivities.

During their Gikuyu Music Festivals facilitated by the County Government the musicians were honoured for their outstanding performance and composing educative songs over the years.

In the Festival held at Gatunyu market in Gatanga, thousands of residents turned out to celebrate the talents of the musicians ahead of ushering New Year 2024 in a style. 

Governor Irung’u Kang’ata said the musicians have been composing songs with wisdom thus need to nurture the upcoming ones.

Kang’ata gave the musicians Sh500,000 for the festivities season, and had a standing ovation for gospel music singer Joseph Murata.

“The Murang’a people are identified with musicians thus why the county government opted to host the Gikuyu Music festivals as a way to appreciate and honour them. Remain united and be focused and ensure you alway compose the best songs  for the community,” said Kang’ata.

The Governor also commissioned Murang’a smart city programme, saying the multi million shillings programmes are designed to open more business opportunities.

 Former Makueni Governor Kibutha Kibwana who was the chief guest lauded the development programme initiated by Kang’ata saying he deserves support.

Kibwana said Kang’ata Care, upgrading of the market centres, and youth empowerment are some of the programme designed to uplift the living standard of the residents.

“I am pleased that Kang’ata has emulated the actions of the late Kenneth Matiba and Mwai Kibaki to spur development,” said Kibwana.

Former CS Moses Kuria, Murang’a Deputy Governor Patrick Munania and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu and uncle Sam accompanied Kang’ata in the event coordinated by the host MCA  Alex Wanyoike.

In the event  among the musicians present were Epha Maina, Peter Kigia, Gachathi Wathuo, Joyce Wamama among others.
