Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) earned 619 cooperatives and estate farmers close to Sh 371.7 million from the sale of 9,030 bags of coffee.
The highest achieved price was Mbee factory of New Mitamboni cooperative affiliated to New KPCU where a bag of AA was sold at Sh40,830.
Kaukiswa factory under Kambusu cooperative society affiliated was the best paid with Sh40,506 for their AA grade.
Gachuiro and Kapsaos Toremo factories allied to the Alliance Berries Limited achieved the third best highest price of Sh38,892 for their 197 bags of AA grade.
In the weekly sale 10 coffee brokers and 14 local and international buyers participated.
Farmers cooperatives and estates affiliated to the Alliance Berries Limited and government backed New KPCU achieved the highest prices in the auction market.
In the market coffee brokers Alliance Berries Limited sold coffee worth Sh82,315,675, New KPCU Sh87,366,287.
Baringo Kawa sold 34 bags for Sh13,67,625,Coffee Estates Bourgeoisie Brokers Limited 261 bags for Sh10,467,346, KCCE 993 bags for Sh 39,988,910,Kipkelion 1,320 bags for Sh55,449,778 among others.
NCE Chief Executive Officer Lisper Ndung’u said in the weekly auction Ibero Kenya bought 2,702 bags of coffee for Sh107.1 million.
She said coffee brokers New KPCU and Alliance Berries Limited delivered the highest volumes of 2,100 bags and 1,992 bags respectively in the market
The quality grades, delivered in the market, Ndung’u added were 2,055 bags of AA and 3,115 bags of AB.
“The buyers are interested in the quality coffee thus the need for the leaders in the cooperatives to encourage their growers to engage in recommended coffee farming practise,” she said.
Cooperative Principal Secretary Patrick Kilemi called on the coffee value chain players to continue encouraging the farmers on production of high quality grades that will attract the buyers.
“ Our buyers are focused on getting the quality grades for their markets and customers,” said Mr Kilemi.
Kenya Coffee Producers Association (KCPA) Chairman Peter Gikonyo said the farmers are interested in achieving the best prices in the market.
“ We have been holding meetings with the farmers across the counties encouraging them on the production of better quality,” said Mr Gikonyo.
