The Kenya Red Cross donated
tonnes of food aid to residents of Laikipia North who have been affected by cattle
rustling.
The donation was
distributed 1,000 households in Kimanjo, Tiamamut and Ngobilo villages
where thousands of people have been displaced by armed cattle rustlers.
KRC Central Region
Coordinator Gitonga Mugambi gave each homestead a package of maize flour,
beans, cooking oil, salt, soap and sanitary towels for girls.
Mugambi said that the
organisation had sourced the donations from well-wishers to support the vulnerable populations across the
country.
During the function, Laikipia North MP Sarah
Korere appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Mariang’i to beef up
security along the Isiolo-Laikipia border.
She observed that hundreds of residents have
been displaced following increased cattle
raids in the villages along the border, especially at Tiamamut village.
The residents have
been calling for the establishment of a police camp between villages of Tiamamut
and Narasha, which lie on the Laikipia North and Isiolo North constituencies.
“The police have
failed as it has been difficult to recover livestock stolen from Laikipia and
driven to neighbouring counties of Isiolo and Samburu?” observed the MP.
Two weeks ago, a
farmer Lobara Ole Mosieny’s lost his 83
