Laikipia: Looming crisis as the county government denounce a decision on doctors

A tug of war between
27 medical officers and Laikipia County Government is looming after a decision
by Public Service Commission to retain them back has been trashed.
The county government has indicated that the commission
was unfair as it failed to hear from its side before giving its verdict.
The move would force the Laikipians’ to
continue seeking for specialized treatment from the neighbouring counties of
Meru, Nyeri, and including Murang’a.
A week ago, the commission ordered the reinstatement of the doctors who were sacked after they
allegedly absconded duty during a strike, which was declared illegal by the
county government.
The position of the county government
is that the commission has not conducted itself impartially by declining to
give all parties, an equal opportunity to be heard and acting in total
disregard.
The County Government, through its
media director Muchiri Gitonga said will appeal against the decision.
In a press release dated August 16, the Media
Director read in parts, “The
decision was
not unexpected as the commission had openly and evidently pre-determined the
matter.
The expectation of the County
Government of Laikipia was that the commission would hear and determine the
case in an impartial and fair manner”.
Laikipia residents reacted angrily against the decision by the county government with the majority saying during the absence of
the doctors there was massive suffering.
In the media platforms, the residents said the decision by the commission  was a relief
to the poor who could not afford  to
travel far in reach of specialized treatment.
