Politicians will be
put on surveillance by National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) during
the constitution-making debate.
NICI Director of
Complaints and Legal Affairs Mr Kyalo Mwengi said the leaders should be sober
on the report and should do their part without inciting their supporters.
Speaking in Nyeri and Murang’a
during a meeting with members of the county assembly, Mr Mwengi has said the
commission will embark on monitoring public rallies and social media platforms
in effort to arrest the inciters.

The commission is holding
countrywide sensitization forums with politicians and administrators educating
them on threat of hate speech, ahead of the political rallies.
This is after the release of Building Bridge
Initiative report to the public.
“NCIC will work hand
in hand with the police to arrest the warmongers, as negativity could
influence Kenyans against each other,” he said.
He added that various
mechanisms will be employed to monitor and comprehend the trouble shooters.
NCIC held the forum three weeks after two
youth were killed at Kenol market, Maragua following confrontation between political
groups ahead of Deputy President William Ruto visit at AIPCA church.
Mwengi further called
upon leaders to adhere to recent directives which were issued by the government
to avoid chaos like the one which were witnessed in Kenol town three weeks ago.
“The guidelines which
were issued by the National security advisory committee need to be adhered at
by all leaders. Those with public rallies have to get permits from police and
be provided with security officers to maintain order during the gathering,”
Mwengi said, asking leaders to avoid holding rallies in areas where there is
tension.
The MCAs supported efforts made by the
commission to save the country from
plunging into chaos ahead of 20222 general election.
Nominated MCA Stephen Habire
observed that young person should avoid being used by politicians to create mayhem and
cause tensions.
“The young people
should not be used to cause chaos which will only benefit specific politicians,”
said Habire.
