The Murang’a traders who suffered destruction of their properties during last week’s fuel prices protest will share Sh 450,000 donated by the local County Government.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata disbursed the kitty sourced from the Emergency Fund to the traders who had been registered to had faced the destruction of the properties on Monday night.
In the disbursement, all the traders who were affected by the chaos that rocked the town will be compensated with the two dealing with mobile phone accessories and school uniforms each getting Sh100,000.
Murang’a Bunge Forum was allocated Sh 100,000 after their Television set was stolen after the night long chaos, and other victims of the skirmishes shared the remaining amount .
In the kitty, the highest beneficiary receiving a cheque of Sh.100,000 and the lowest being Sh.10,000.
In the distribution of the cheques, Kang’ata outlined that his administration has the responsibility to support the victims of the calamities to facilitate their return to business.

“The attack of their businesses affected the source of their income.The traders also employed thousands of the employees,” said Kang’ata who was accompanied by his Deputy Stephen Munania.
The Governor said the support through the County Government Emergency Fund aims to help affected traders recover, rebuild their businesses and restore livelihoods.
“ The County Government remains committed to supporting traders, protecting businesses and promoting a safe and conducive environment for economic growth,” said Kang’ata.
Munania said they met with the traders, and laid down strategies for the future on how the local traders will safeguard their business should violent protests occur.
“ Inspection was conducted to assess the damage caused on the business, and brought the traders together for their safety in the future,” said Mr Munania.
MCAs’ Charles Machigo, Bernard Ruiru and Grace Nduta lauded the efforts made by Kang’ata to help with the affected business persons, with a kitty.
They asked the traders to protect their businesses as well as those of their neighbours at the times of the danger.
