Coffee market nets Sh 487 million as volumes in the auction reduces

The coffers at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) have declined in the past two months with this week farmers presenting 11,835 bags that netted Sh 487.1 million 

In the market the coffee brokers presented 1,549 bags of grade AA,  grade AB 1,763 bags , and grade C 984 bags that fetched premier prices.

In the buyers category, Ibero Kenya  bought 4,038 bags of coffee, followed by C- Dorman 1,644 bags, Sasini 1,563 bags among others .

In the broker’s performance category , the NCE report reflects that New KPCU  offered 3,694 bags,   Kirinyaga slopes 2,756 bags, KCCE 2,450 bags,  among others.

 The report adds that Alliance Berries Limited, which offered the highest volumes of coffee in the market, had taken control in the provision of the largest volumes in the market, this week offering 411 bags.

Others were CEBBA that offered 540 bags, and Minnesota 247 bags. 

NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u says they are calling on the farmers to increase production as Kenyan coffee has attracted many buyers.

“ The auction offers competitive prices, thus growers should concentrate on production of the quality coffee to satisfy the market,” said Ms Ndung’u.

Coffee Value Chain Expert Henry Kinyua  says coffee harvesting in Meru and Machakos/Makueni coffee harvesting starts in May, as in parts of Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu comes to an end.

“ We expect volumes of coffee to hit the market soon with production expected from the Eastern region,” said Kinyua.
