Jubilee Party leadership has signalled to field a candidate for the Ol Kalao by election following the demise of the former MP David Kiaraho.
Party Official Jeremiah Kioni said since the late Kiaraho was a member of the Jubilee Party, they should be allowed to field a candidate without facing opposition from other parties.
The Mountain Journal has learned that several aspirants have declared to run for the seat to replace Kiaraho on the sponsorship of various political parties.
Kioni affirmed that the Jubilee party was prepared to contest and retain the parliamentary seat, emphasizing that it rightfully belongs to it.
“Within the United Opposition have a standing agreement: whenever a political seat falls vacant, the party that previously held it retains the mandate to defend it under the United Alternative Government framework,” said Kioni.
Kioni also called on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) not to participate in the upcoming by-election and instead concentrate on implementing national government projects in Nyandarua County.
At the same time, the IEBC suspended the enhanced continuous voter registration exercise in the constituency, following the death of Kiaraho.
The IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu outlined that the suspension of the voter registration in the locality was in line with the legal procedures governing the electoral process, when a seat fell vacant.
“The suspension will remain in force until the necessary steps towards a by-election are completed,” said the commissioner during a stakeholder engagement forum.
