Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged residents in the coastal region to support President William Ruto’s quest for a second term as the government continues spending billions of money in the projects to improve the region’s economy.
Prof. Kindiki said many projects are ongoing in various counties in the region and are slated for completion in time for people to benefit from them.
“We are constructing roads, expanding electricity connections, ensuring the blue economy is beneficial to the residents, affordable housing projects are going on, international stadiums, modern markets, and empowerment of the youth, women, and other development initiatives,” DP said.
The Deputy President spoke on Saturday during a Resource Mobilization for Small Scale Traders in Lunga Lunga Constituency, Kwale County.
He said President Ruto’s administration is rolling out a development plan that benefits every part of the country, including Kwale and other coastal counties, at the centre of it.
“The call for two terms is about sustainable development in roads, electricity connectivity, youth empowerment through NYOTA, women empowerment, the blue economy, and affordable housing,” he noted.
In Kwale County, the government is spending 12.8 billion shillings for the construction of tarmac roads. Most of them have been completed, opening up trade and transforming lives.
The road networks connecting A14 Junction, Lunga Lunga, Vanga, Jego, Majoreni, Kanana, and Shimoni have been completed.
Samburu to Kinango and Kinango to Kwale Town Roads construction works are ongoing.
The One Border Stop Post in Lunga Lunga has also been completed for Sh825 million to enhance trade and ease cross-border movement.
“The government has also heightened investment in the blue economy with the construction of the Shimoni Fish Port for Sh 2.7 billion . The port is now complete and operational. Also, 652 million shillings has been handed over to Beach Management Units in Kwale County on top of 70 boats to support their work,” DP indicated.
The administration is also constructing a National Marine Research Centre of Excellence in Shimoni at 1.4 billion shillings, and a Marine Academy and Centre of Excellence for Port Logistics in Kombani at 600 million shillings.
Three high-capacity deep-sea fishing vessels have also been procured to boost Kenya’s fishing industry and create jobs.
Kwale County has been allocated 1.4 billion shillings to connect 12,800 homes and businesses to electricity.
Prof. Kindiki said the opposition has nothing to offer but divisiveness and useless slogans.
“Our opponents always come here and leave without any mention of how they will improve roads, expand electricity, or improve the blue economy. They only focus on divisive politics, useless slogans, and who should serve for one term. There is no place for them here,” he said.
