Family demands justice over the death of a boda boda rider

Tempers flared during the burial of a boda boda rider with the residents in Gatunduguru village in Kahumbu, Murang’a, demanding justice for their kin, killed under a myserious circumstance.

They said the death of  Samuel Ng’ang’a Mungai,23 years old, should be investigated to establish the motive and the culprits who were involved, as he had reported threats on his life to the police, which was not acted upon.

He succumbed at Kenyatta National Hospital where he was rushed  for specialised treatment after his body was discovered dumped at Kariguini area near a quarry site on February 17th,  after he went missing on the previous night in Maragua town where he had transported a passenger.

The bodaboda riders gave police 14 days to arrest the suspects, failure to which they hold demonstrations seeking justice for themselves if no action is taken.

The deceased was a boda boda rider operating from Area Four in Saba Saba market.

Kahumbu MCA Isaac Chefman Njoroge said it was unethical for the police to delay the commencement of the investigations as the suspected criminals were looming in the village.

“ The claim that a suspect attended a postmortem examination to prove the police have delayed to institute investigations,” said Njoroge.

The family spokesman, Samuel Kamande, said the deceased’s death occurred barely days after he reported to the police that his life was under threat following a severe beating by a person known to him.

Kamande, the grandfather of the deceased, claimed that the report made at Kahumbu police patrol base was not acted upon, and OB number was issued as the procedure demands.

“Strangely, a murder suspect whom the family demands be arrested found his way into the postmortem room in a private mortuary in Kabati, Murang’a,” said Mzee Kamande.
