Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Alice Wahome, has embarked on a two-day development tour of Nakuru, Nyandarua, and Laikipia counties.

The tour is focused on inspection of the land registries, markets, and affordable housing programs. under construction in the counties.

The CS began with the visit at the Naivasha Lands Registry, where she emphasized the importance of understanding working environments and operational spaces as a basis for strengthening service delivery. Her engagements are designed to assess both the successes achieved and the challenges faced by land offices.

Engage registrars not courts

She urged Kenyans to seek resolution of land boundary disputes through land registrars rather than relying on lengthy court processes. She observed that courts should only serve as a last resort in cases where registrars delay in addressing disputes.

Lake Naivasha encroachment

The CS also highlighted ongoing concerns around encroachment of Lake Naivasha, pointing to cases where individuals obtained questionable land titles in riparian zones, especially in the Kihoto area.

She noted that the Ministry will involve the Director of Survey to ascertain genuine cases and determine whether properties sit on riparian land.

Demand for proper revenue

Additionally, Wahome directed land registry officials to ensure proper collection of revenue and fees, stressing that such funds must be fully remitted to government coffers.

She identified stamp duty as a critical area where vigilance can significantly boost national revenue, supporting investments in education, infrastructure, and other public priorities.
