Prices at the Mombasa Tea Auction have continued to decline with last week the tea factories earned Sh 802,279,504 after the auction of 3,234,998 kgs of tea.
The prices reflected a decline from the previous week where the 70 tea factories earned Sh940,881,663 after the auction of 3,871,866 Kgs.
Three weeks ago, the smallholder tea factories received Sh1.2 billion following the sale of 5,884,670 kgs
In the week, tea factories that attained the higher prices are Mununga Sh34,090,146, GathuthiSh28,254,856 , Kimunye Sh25,571,913, Kathangariri Sh 9,033,120, Rukuriri Sh24,301,760.
In the report by the Tea Brokers East Africa Limited Kathangariri factory sold 29,520kgs, Gacharage tea factory earned Sh12,786,711 after the auction of 44,553kgs, Ngere earned Sh14,911,200 for the sale of 52,320kgs.
Kobel factory auctioned 3,996kgs earning Sh651,348, Gianchore auctioned 11,626kgs earning Sh1,918,290.
KTDA Zone six Board Member Enos Njeru lauded the tea growers for the quality production from their farms for the market.
“In Embu we are proud that Rukuriri, Kathangariri and Mungania factories have demonstrated in production of quality tea attracting the market,” said Njeru.

Ngere tea factory chairman James Githinji said the tea market has remained consistent with the buyers interested in Kenya tea.
“The farmers in Ngere are duty bound on production of quality tea to ensure the buyers get the best,” said Githinji.
At the same time, in the auction six countries that participated among them Kenya selling 8.6 million kgs, Uganda 1,057 million kgs, Tanzania 99,780kgs, Burundi 112,404 kgs and Malawi 79,612 kgs.
In the buyers category, 48 dealers purchased tea at the auction as the Mitchell Cotts led with 12,580kgs, LAB International 11,361kgs, Global Tea 11,079kgs, James Finlay 10,380kgs,Chai Trading 7,660kgs among others.
The buyers who bought the least from the market are Kirindo and Jaleel trading bought 20kgs each respectively.
