The government has rolled out a public participation initiative to support formulating sports laws and policies as part of strengthening sporting infrastructure.

The move is geared towards formulating the nation’s  sports infrastructure and youth development programmes, as the country was working on construction of 22 stadiums across the country.

Youth and Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi led a consultative forum in Murang’a, where he revealed Murang’a county will have an international stadium at Mumbi Grounds that will be equipped with modern offices, and digital hubs  for use by the youth.

“ At Mumbi grounds the stadium will be developed on nine acres of land, which will go along in supporting the youth in sports,” said the PS.

Issues deliberated by the sports stakeholders from various fields were allowances, health, insurance and post retirement among others.

The enacting policies are geared towards safeguarding public sports facilities for long term use and sustainability.

He added that the academies will  assist in talent development and digital innovation.

The stadium construction ran into controversies last year after Mumbi Girls High School declined to surrender some land to pave the expansion of the current Mumbi Grounds.

“ As other parts of the country will enjoy the sporting facilities, Murang’a will have a 10,000 seater capacity facilities,” said Mwangi adding that 37 sports academies will be built across the country.

Among those who accompanied the PS  included the Murang’a East Deputy County Commissioner Charles Mureithi, and  the Murang’a County Youth affairs  CEC Mr Manoah Gachucha.
