Smart cities programme ends suffering in the rural market centres

 The smart cities programme has continued to add value to the markets in the rural areas, through opening of the backstreets in Murang’a county.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata said the multi million shilling market upgrading programme is a relief to many of the rural markets, following the improvement that will enable businesses to thrive.

At Gitugi market in Mathioya, the residents celebrated as Kang’ata commissioned the smart cities programme saying during the rainy season their shops will be accessed by the customers, unlike before.

“ This is a milestone for Murang’a as the backstreet shops that had no access, this time they will be full of customers unlike before,” said Kang’ata.

 He pleaded with the business persons to invest more to achieve high returns, as his administration is determined  to improve the market centres.

 Moses Mwangi a trader lauded the county government initiative saying the traders will be doing their business in dignity, after decades of walking in muddy grounds.

“ This is a major improvement to Gitugi people that the shoe dealers will be having an easy time when transacting with their customers as they will be placing their goods on the carbos,” said Mwangi.

MCA’s Morris Thuku (Kiru) and Charles Machigo( Murang’a Town), host Edwin Wairagu said the county government has transformed the market centres to support the local shopkeepers.

They said the smart cities programme has transformed major markets in Murang’a market designed to support the traders increase their sales.

“ Residents of Gitugi are happy after a programme they asked for has been completed and commissioned, thus ending walking in muddy grounds,” said Wairagu.

 Thuku said they are determined to give Murang’a people the best in efforts to improve their living standards.

“ Smart Cities is a part of many programme that Governor Kang’ata initiated for the interest of the people, thus he should be supported,” said Thuku also  the county assembly chief whip.
