Coffee auction  hits Sh1.6 billion

Coffee market Sh 1,605,646,020 following sale of 29,758 bags of the commodity at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) during the weekly auction. 

In the analysis, 4,711 bags of coffee were withdrawn from the market.

Gachatha factory in Nyeri county achieved the highest price of Sh57,600 for each of the 43 bags of grade AA brokered by the Alliance Berries Limited.

In the final reports from the market, other factories.that achieved impressive prices for grade AB are Karani and Guama that achieved Sh51,680 for each bag.

Brokers who participated in the auction are Alliance Berries Limited 12,443 bags( Sh 673,544,337)  Kirinyaga Slopes 3,414  bags,for Sh190,233,817, CEBBL 2,112 bags for Sh103,296,804,KCCE 3,025 bags for  Sh170,022,487, New KPCU 3,515 bags Sh191,042,037 among others.

NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u appreciated the coffee growers for trusting the auction facility calling for increased production.

 Ms Ndung’u appreciated Alliance Berries, Kirinyaga Slopes, KCCE and New KPCU for the continued delivery of coffee at the auction market for competitive prices.

“The market is doing well and thus needs production of the quality coffee that will satisfy the expanding market,” said Ndung’u.

 Murang’a Agriculture CEC Kimani Mugo appreciates the smallholder cooperative societies that have embraced quality production of coffee.

“In Murang’a we have Gatagua, Iyego, Marumu, Kangunu that are doing better in the coffee sector,” said Mugo.

In the dealers category, the NCE reports details that Ibero Kenya bought 9,424 bags for Sh 511,300,975.5, C Dorman 6,955 bags for Sh 329,156,856, Louis Dreyfus 3,102 for Sh 149,418,994.725 among others.

In the category, Nature Bounty bought only four bags of coffee valued at  Sh 300,144.
