As Kenya’s economy struggles to create new jobs for thousands of jobless youths, fresh graduates have been challenged to pursue self-employment and endeavor to positively contribute to social-economic growth of the country.

Speaking during the university’s 8th graduation ceremony that saw 2,566 graduands conferred with degrees and awarded diplomas and certificates, Zetech University Vice Chancellor Professor Njenga Munene noted that the graduates have been prepared and adequately equipped for self-employment.

Prof Munene announced that Zetech is preparing to introduce new market-driven courses such as nursing, Data analytics and other courses next year so as to align with current market demands.

The university’s director for corporate affairs and marketing John Mwai echoed the sentiments stating that the university’s leadership in innovation and research has helped the institution overcome economic hurdles.

With this year’s graduation theme focusing on combating climate change through green skills, Mwai encouraged graduates to leverage acquired skills to adapt to an ever-evolving economic landscape and contribute to a better world.

Some graduates led by Enocentus Wambua and Beka Achieng however voiced the common anxiety among graduates, emphasizing the uncertainty in securing jobs post-graduation and urged the government to ensure better employment opportunities for new graduates.
