Secondary school heads have raised a red flag over the preparation of KCSE following the delay by the Ministry of Education to remit full capitation.
The heads through Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) are seeking the clearance of Sh6,000 per student to clear the pending balance to enable effective preparation for the national examination set to start this month.
Through the association, the heads across the country have lamented over inability to purchase some of the materials required in the KCSE
KESSHA National Chairman Willy Kuria said the schools are facing a major financial crisis due to lack of resources to purchase necessary facilities for the forthcoming KCSE,and end of the examination for other classes.
Kuria said the learning institutions were facing heavy burden, as in the year out of Sh22,224 allocated, only Sh Sh15,192 have been remitted by the government to facilitate free secondary education.
āIn the year, the heads were directed to deposit Sh3,850 per student into the SIBA account required to receive resources from NG CDF and Ministry of Education for the purpose of infrastructure development,ā said Kuria in a press statement.
The schools are in a financial; crisis and it is not possible to complete the third term, if the government would not release the remaining capitation. The teachers under the board of management will go without salaries, added Kuria.
Kuria said the challenges the schools are going through are purchase of stationeries, laboratories and equipment, electricity and water bills, local transport and travel and administrative costs.
