Masengeli’s is a free man as the six-month sentence is set aside

The besieged Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli appeared in court on and apologised, as he explained his absence from the court for seven summons.

In the witness stand, Masengeli, said his absence from court followed official duties as the major reason for his non-appearance.

He told the court that he was assigned to deal with the insecuirity issues in the North and the vast coastal regions.

“I humbly apologise to this honourable Court for missing the hearings. The absence was not intentional but due to operational challenges,” he said.

“As a police officer, I respect the law and commit to complying with court orders moving forward.”

Consequently, the Justice Lawrence Mugambi stated that the court found Masengeli’s apology to be genuine and sincere, leading to the lifting of his six-month sentence.
