The weekly coffee auction fetched Sh 382,480,813 after the sale of 9,736 bags of coffee.
The auction attracted 16 local and international coffee buyers who bought 6,543 bags of the premier grades of AA and AB for Sh268,486,062.
Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) CEO Lisper Ndung’u said coffee from Jobe Farm achieved the highest price of Sh43,483 which was presented in the market by New KPCU.
The NCE official said the premier grades presented in the auction by New KPCU and Alliance Berries Limited fetched the attractive prices.
She said 19 bags of coffee from Kahunyo factory marketed by Alliance Berries Limited achieved Sh36,773 for each bag of AA sold by Alliance Berries Limited.
“The buyers are interested in quality coffee thus our farmers are encouraged to produce the best to enjoy the impressive prices offered in the auction market,” said Ms Ndung’u.
Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro said the performance of the auction market has been impressive as the cooperatives have gained a lot, with those producing quality coffee getting impressive prices.
“ There is a need for the agriculture experts to support the farmers in the counties to produce quality grades that attract the international market thus better returns to the farmers,” said Munyoro.
In the market, eight coffee brokers participated as seven others failed to present the produce at the auction.
In the NCE report, Alliance Berries presented 2,637 bags that earned the growers Sh103,704,849, New KPCU 2,881 bags, for Sh114,999,691, Kirinyaga Slopes 1,937 bags for Sh74,937,206.
