Kirinyaga MP Jane Njeri Maina has taken a broad step to defend the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the attack by his rivals.
On Njeri’s spot are the parliamentary majority leader Kimani Ichungwa and Governor Mumbi Waiguru who she said were out to pursue their political interest through launching spirited fights against the DP.
A day after the two pitched camp in Mathioya, Murang’a and launched an attack on Gachagua, Njeri said the two cannot match with the politics played by the second in command.
“ Despite their spirited hate campaign, they will never get to the level of Deputy President whom they have been belittling,” she said.
This comes in the wake of attacks towards the Deputy President by Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa and other leaders who have been trying to tarnish Rigathi’s name.
Speaking during opening of an ablution block at Kiangoma primary school in Ndia Constituency, Njeri says that Mt Kenya leaders should protect their own instead of undermining them.
“ It is a pity that when other regions are defending their senior leaders, in Mt Kenya we are doing the opposite. The DP should be accorded his respect as the senior most leader in government from Mt Kenya region,” she said.
In Mathioya, Ichungwa said the deputy president was playing divisive politics after he failed to deliver better prices on tea, coffee, dairy and fighting alcoholism.
In reference to Gachagua, he said he was playing politics through uniting the residents in Mt Kenya instead of fighting for better prices for the agricultural produce.
He said it was pathetic that there were unsold tea lying in the warehouses, yet remains a responsibility bestowed on the DP to deal with the stumbling blocks in the agricultural sector.
“ I will continue fighting for the interest of the Kenya farmers from the state capture that existed during the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s time,” said the majority leaders.
Mathioya MP Dr Edwin Mugo said there are people who are failing President William Ruto after they have failed to deliver.
“Ruto as they have continued failed to deliver I, MPs Ndindi Nyoro and Ichugw’a we can deliver for the interest of Kenyans,” said Mugo.
