A high profile KTDA  meeting  to induct the newly elected factory directors was disrupted after a heated argument after two factions differed on how to reconstitute the KTDA Management Services (MS) and do away with the indpendent directors.

In a heated debate in Mombasa, those demanding to do away with the directors appointed on the gender top up, majority it emerged were not conversant with tea growing nor its marketting aspect.

The differences emerged between factions allied to KTDA Chairman Enos Njeru and that of Gatundu South MP Gabriel  Kagombe before the day’s programme was  rowdily disrupted.

On the KTDA MS, they demanded the board to be reconstituted to allow the factories to nominate their representatives.

Njeru was forced to call off the meeting after his plea  to have the matter deliberated by the KTDA Holding board on Friday next week landed on deaf ears as the allies of Kagombe led by Karuchiu from Gatunguru teq factory in Murang’a started the matters ought to be resolved without a further delay.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to close the tea directors induction training tomorrow.

Kagombe  in his sentiments told the directors from the 70 KTDA controlled tea factories that the role played by the independent directors in the factories remains unknown.

” Since all the directors are here in Mombasa  we expect the KTDA to issue a notice that will enable the matters to be deliberated and a resolution arrived at,” said the Gatundu South MP.

But Njeru said the matter required  to be addressed through the laid down procedure to avoid plunging tea factories into uncessary litigations.

” Your concerns have been heard and a notice for a meeting will be issued to invite the KTDA holding directors  for the deliberations concerning sending away of the independent board members at the factories among others,” said Njeru.
