Murang’a County Government will invest heavily to boost water connectivity in the next three years to ensure the commodity was accessible in all the 35 wards.
In the celebrations to mark World Water Day at Mukerenju grounds in Kandara, the local deputy governor Stephen Munania said to realise the dream, the government has partnered with water service providers focusing at increasing connectivity through the last mile connections programme.
Munania said in the last financial year, the government allocated Sh 35 million that was spent on the last mile water connectivity programme.
“Last financial year the county utilized Sh 35 million which were shared among the 35 wards, as the government facilitated piping, distributing water from the 11 bore holes to the homesteads.
“Water coverage in Murang’a currently stands at 60 percent as some localities have more water than other issues that will be addressed in the next financial year where more resources will be allocated to the department.” said Munania.
Among the present was Assembly Water Committee Chairman Mr Edwin Wairagu who said the assembly will next year allocate more funds to the water sector
Murang’a Water (Muwasco).Managing Director Eng Daniel Ng’ang’a said his firm has kicked off water supply to areas in Maragua sub county following the Presidential directive.
“Water coverage at Maragua town and its environs currently stands at 40 percent,” said Ng’ang’a adding that in the next three months the coverage will rise to 60 percent.
