Kirinyaga farmers managed to fetch Sh477 million from the sale of 9,046 bags of coffee, through Kirnyaga Slopes Coffee Brokerage firm.
It was the first time for the farmers-backed marketing agent to present more produce at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE), overtaking Alliance Berries Limited and NKPCU.
In Tuesday’s coffee auction, the farmers’ cooperatives and estates got Sh1,053,489,864, from the sale of 22,729 bags of coffee.
The proceeds registered a rise from the previous Sh902 million, where the coffee producers delivered
The highest price achieved at the auction was Sh65,852 per 50kg bag from Teremuka Estate in Nakuru County presented to the market by Alliance Berries Limited.
According to the details obtained from Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE), Alliance Berries Limited delivered 4,352 bags of coffee followed by NKPCU with 4,304 bags.
NCE CEO Risper Ndung’u said that in the market they managed to sell 4,377 bags of AA, AB 10,802 bags, and C 4,708 bags.
“ The sale attracted 22 buyers with three leading dealers being C- Dorman purchasing 7,355 bags, Sasini 3,708 bags and Taylor Winch 3,136 bags,” said Ndung’u.
Kigumu MP Joseph Munyoro a member of Coffee Tea Parliamentary Group said the performance at NCE.
“ We are seeking farmers to increase their production at the society level,” said Munyoro.
Chairman of Kenya Coffee Producers Association Peter Gikonyo said delivery of coffee at the NCE has improved following the sensitization exercise in the coffee belts.
“ The performance at NCE has stabilized with marketing agents delivering above 20,000 bags weekly. We started very low in August last year but the situation has greatly improved,” said Gikonyo.

Other marketing agents who participated in the auction were Bungoma 373 bags, KCCE 430 bags, Kiambu Coffee 510 bags, Kipkelion 2,444 bags, Mt Elgon 1,270 bags.
