Kirwara hospital gets a face lift

The much awaited expansion and renovation of Kirwara Level Four hospital in Gatanga, Murang’a has been completed.

The refurbished facility has a modern Casualty wing, general wards, male and female surgical wards.

On Sunday, Governor Irungu Kang’ata launched the hospital and including the pediatric ward saying the improved facility  will save the locals from travelling long distances  to seek treatment in Kandara, Maragua and Murang’a..


The facility for the first time will admit men  for treatment and observation as in the past had admission facilities  for women and children.

“The hospital bed capacity has been increased  from 18 to 100 beds, with the maternity capacity raised from 11 beds to 30 beds,” said the governor.

Kang’ata also said the number of nurses at the facility has been added to cope  with the increased number of patients.


“ My administration has added the number of nurses and other caregivers to enable improved delivery of services. More importantly the welfare of staff has been catered for with the establishment of doctors’ new offices , nurse stations,” he said.

The county government has established consultation rooms where patients in need of specialized treatment  will be attended.
